Better Change

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Earlier this week I received an email from the erstwhile adviser of the student publication (which in his email he kept calling the student organ) about how to turn the lackluster organization around.

This included having a committee composed of administrators and faculty (and maybe a student representative) choose the editor-in-chief and not leave it to legacy appointment by the outgoing chief.

He also suggested that the student council and the student organizations make the publication their own, instead of as being independent from them and thus out of their concern, so that they will support it.

I'm amenable to these suggestions (and I said so in my email to him) and I set a meeting with him and the editorial staff to talk about it, instead of just dumping everything in my lap like he wants to.

@@ I also went to the president's office today to consult about this upcoming formation camp where the organizers emailed the students directly, giving them ideas that they could finalize decisions like who will go without my green light.

The president's secretary told me to email the organizer, not mincing words so that she won't think I'm joking.

I sent the email, which I also carbon copied to the brother president. He commented to me in text about arguing in email when a call would do, since the organizer is someone easy to talk to.

I just didn't tell him anymore that it was his secretary who suggested that approach, so he won't chew her out.

@@ It's the middle of the post for the day and I'm drawing a blank again, just like I did with the student accessible version earlier. Care to guess which part was first and which part was tacked on?

And to think this is one of the days when I'm hanging out in my office in the student center, which is not known for its silence.

That's why during Mondays and Thursdays, the only days when I have classes, I almost pleaded with the dean for me to make my classroom preparations in the engineering faculty room, to concentrate.

But to the students' credit, there are more students now hanging out here during the university break instead of leaving the campus. It's only up to the organizations to hold activities during that time.

@@ I just finished the meeting with the student council and the student organizations for the foundation week.

Most of the activities are pushing through, especially the community badminton tournament I had wanted to have since last year.

As I think I've mentioned here before, there is no concert anymore for the student council, again because they don't coordinate.

The day it was declined was the day they told me they had already talked to 3 of the 7 bands to perform.

Session 2723 isn't so glad another week is done and it's a week closer to foundation week. Class dismissed.
