Exaggeration is Everything

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The title of yesterday's post made me remember this post secret postcard I read that said (I could be paraphrasing) "Life is good. People just tend to overreact sometimes."

Well, it would have been self evident if it had said that life is more than good, maybe great.

I could admit that sometimes I paint the picture rosier than it seems, but consider the alternative.

I don't like wallowing in fear of potential threats. As I've said many times before (again in different words), if you've already planned out for it, there's no need to be afraid.

@@ I had my last lectures for my classes of the term yesterday. This is because (as, I think, I have mentioned in the student accessible version) Thursday will be using the Friday schedule.

In my science elective class, the students were asking for an alternative to a written final exam.

I gave them two choices: either to make three dimensional representations of constellations (four to five groups per student) or a zodiac constellation slide (or cylindrical) rule calendar.

The final decision is to be handed to me tomorrow. So far, only two students are making the effort for a project.

And despite how much I want to answer all of their questions, part of the grade is the amount of effort put into thinking about how to execute the project. But I like that they've already gotten so far in just one day. And I did point them in the right direction to look, despite the fact that there were no pictures of samples on the net for the cylinder.

It seems that the other students have given up or decided that a written exam is easier.

As for my computer architecture class, their final project is due on the same date, tomorrow.

All that's needed is for their programming language is just a few more error messages and total integration.

@@ Today the administrative assistant for the college asked me to remake, from scratch, this spread sheet computation we made around 2003 or 2004 for computing the billable hours of student assistants, after having entered the time started and finished.

This is because somehow she lost the password to the one she made all those years ago, and of course I've moved from about half a dozen computers since then to still have a copy. All she had for me is a printout either made way back then, I guess as part of her paper files.

Session 2769 is taking it slow before taking it even slower over the weekend. Class dismissed.
