Speaking in General

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

The events of the weekend bring several things to mind that could comprise the post today.

First of all there is the concept of Fat Tuesday taken to a relatively extreme level. This holiday is supposed to be the last chance for excessive behavior before the rigors of self restraint imposed by the Lenten season, starting with Ash Wednesday.

This is a yearly thing, and not really that excessive. We are only talking about forty days of fasting, abstinence and whatnot then it is back to the regular grind (and bump).

But what if one were to enter (or reenter) the seminary) for instance? Then one has to look forward to a lifetime of not doing a lot of the things one has been accustomed to doing, including activities that would break the vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience.

As that day of becoming cloistered approaches, does a person then go on a series of Fat Tuesdays?

What if these days were interspersed with visits by the religious adviser, who is in fact preparing the entrant for the beginning of the new journey? It makes it more ironic right?

Is there a story in there somewhere? What would the final point of the narrative be?

@@ Second, that could be related to the first and maybe not, is about fate taking a stronger hand in the life of a person.

As a scientific man, I know when several events cannot be blamed anymore on human factors, much less the scheming of an all-powerful man with far-reaching tentacles and all manners of surveillance for making the life of one man completely miserable.

So in a case like that, to what can you attribute all the failures that one encounters in the pursuit of a goal, especially when these failures include obstacles in several different fronts such as inclement weather, physical illness and an imperfect communication system?

Either one has to concoct a supernatural force of malevolence bent on personal destruction for some reason out of the billions of inhabitants in the globe (unless everyone has their own such demon), or chalk everything up to a series of big freaking coincidences happening worthy of a Hollywood black comedy with the brag based on a true story.

There is a possible third explanation, inspired by my expectation about a movie on extraordinary circumstances that turned out to have a more mundane solution (and no, this is not the recent Sherlock Holmes but a much older film), and that is that it is all in the mind.

It is all in the collection of the perception about what the person observes, how the synapses weeds out the patterns (correctly or not) from all the input.

Session 2973 says wrong conclusion leads to wrong action. Class dismissed.
