Witnessing Something Pretty Ugly

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

We had the meeting for the marketing of the college today, the first encounter of the college teachers (directors mostly) with the new (since September) marketing officer.

Basically, she was slaughtered. Young as she was, she was no match against these professionals who already had their own idea of what marketing is supposed to do.

First salvo was when she could not answer one director who asked why she had not distributed the brochures to the various feeder high schools when she arrived. Now it is too late and we have to wait until the start of the new school year before it will do any good.

Some in fact say that it is actually the third year high school students that we should be targeting, not the fourth year students, which means that we will be seeing the rewards of the efforts in the enrollment two years from now, a problem they already had with the previous marketing officer, knowing he was only in it for a year.

Second she made the mistake of saying that the newly minted brochures for two of the schools already needed to be changed for consistency, which would be a waste.

Instead it was asked that she focus on the two other schools that still do not have brochures, and the one for the entire college that includes the school of arts and sciences.

It was also impressed upon the teachers that she should be open to ideas instead of shooting them down when suggested by the people who know the strengths of their work.

There were also comments about the college having their own website, and I also got to air my own concern that the pictures in our print ads mirror that of our biggest rival.

There seems to also be a discrepancy with what was said about a central office making the layout of our brochure, supposedly a presidential directive but maybe untrue.

@@ Another tidbit that I found out today is that the former director of the school of communication will not be returning to the position when she comes back from her leave of absence.

What was the reason given? It was poor evaluation. But we know who evaluated her, which means that the administrators probably have majority of the rating percentage.

I guess changing personnel can really be just that arbitrary to some, if they got used to it.

@@ It is somewhat scary to see someone who acts eerily in a similar fashion as I do or did when I was younger, that I do not know whether to be flattered or increasingly wary.

Session 2997 sees a big milestone nearing. Class dismissed.
