California Ballot Initiatives

So, I got my voter information pamphlet and sample ballot for the upcoming election in the mail a couple of days ago. I spent a bunch of time this afternoon reading about the propositions on the state ballot and trying to figure out how I'm going to vote. I always try to take this part of the ballot seriously, because the propositions often get a lot less debate and discussion than candidates for office, but they can actually have a lot more impact on the day to day lives of citizens of California. This year's batch of propositions contains more than the usual share of particularly weighty ones, so I thought I'd post my thoughts and see if any of my readers want to add their own opinions.

So, here we go, the propositions. (I'm giving links to the full text of the propositions from the website Congress.org. If you want to see the California Voter Information Pamphlet info for the propositions, including the Legislative Analysis and the arguments pro and con, you can get those from the California Secretary of State's page.

Actually, as I wrote this, it started to get really long, so I decided to break out each proposition into its own post. So, see the following post, and I apologize to subscribers who are going to get 17 new post e-mails.
