Proposition 68

Full Text of Proposition

What does it do? Requires that Indian tribes running casinos agree to pay 25% of slot machine revenues to the state government and accept assorted other requirements, or the state will authorized selected non-Indian gaming establishments to run slot machines.

How I plan to vote: No

Why? "Give us a crapload of money, or we take away your monopoly." Blackmail is such a lovely political tactic. I do think that Indian casinos should contribute revenue to the state, and be subject to other reasonable requirements, but, given that the Indian tribes are supposed to be sovereign entities, I think this has to happen as the result of negotiations between the state government and the tribes in question.
