2003-03-28 10:14 AM Ouch Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Is in pain a mood? Read/Post Comments (4) So, it's been a while since my last real entry. I never know what I want to write about, and I really didn't feel like ranting about world affairs (I do enough of that offline, anyway). But I will update, for two reasons. One, I've basically been stuck in the house for the past two days, and two, it's bad enough that I think people should know about it. I developed a nasty abcess on my rear end over the last weekend. I was dumb, and didn't get it looked at immediately, although I did see the Nurse Practicioner at Moorpark on Tuesday. She gave me a shot of Rocephin (an antibiotic) and then put me on Keflex (yet another antibiotic). I figured, "Hey, no problem, this will go away." She did ask me to come back Wednesday for a recheck of my temperature and Thursday for a follow-up on the infection. When I came back on Wednesday, my temperature was only down half a degree, she made a face that indicated she was not at all happy with my blood pressure (which she didn't tell me), and then she checked the infection. She told me she wanted me to see an urgent care facility ASAP, because she was very concerned. Ugh. I went, and the doctor decided to drain the abcess. For those of you who don't understand what this entails, (warning - graphic content below!!!)
The other piece of news came when I was in to the NP on Tuesday. She decided to check my blood sugar, since it had been a few years since I'd been to a doctor. Apparently, I've been fooling myself about the diabetes. My blood sugar was at 243, which is at least 43 points into the danger zone for that kind of test. *sigh* So, I'm tired, I hurt, and I'm rather pissed off at myself. Whee.
