2004-02-09 8:41 AM AAARRGH!!! Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: frustrated beyond belief Read/Post Comments (5) Me am tired. When me am tired, me type like Bizarro Berek. Me so happy. *blink* Sorry about that, my body started typing without my brain. Yesterday was a fairly long day, for such a short day. Pita and I didn't get up until after 1:30, which fairly effective nuked the plans we had for the first half of the day. Among various minor physical ailments I discovered upon waking, I was less than pleased to discover that during the night, my lip had apparently split, or been slashed, right by the corner of my mouth. While dealing with that, I got to endure the frustration of my brother (who I hadn't seen in 4 days) implying he was going to drop by shortly to say hi, only to (apparently) flake out. He claims I misunderstood what he was saying, I maintain that he was an inconsistent jerk. Anyway. Gathering up my energy, we headed out. Pita, Jen, Rob, and I had decided to go to Medieval Times for dinner, because it's fun, and because Pita had never been. After the not too bad drive down, we popped of the freeway, and made for the restaurant. While waiting to make the left into the parking lot, I noticed steam pouring out from under the hood. This not being a good thing, I immediately looked at my engine temperature. While a little high, it wasn't anywhere close to out of the normal range. Pita noted that it smelled like water was burning. I nursed the car into the parking lot, and, after taking 5 minutes or so to look for obvious problems (and finding the tear in a hose which appears to have been the problem), we convinced the parking attendant that it really wouldn't be good to have to nurse the car into the alternate parking lot, and he let us park right by the building. After a few minutes discussion, it was decided that since we had driven a hour to get there, and we'd have to wait for a while for a tow truck anyway, that we might as well see the damned show. While we waited for the show, once of the better events of the evening occured. When I let my dad know what was going on, he decided that he would drive down so that he would be there when we got out, so that we wouldn't have towait for him, or find another means of getting home, assuming the car couldn't be nursed home. The show was fun, and I did manage to enjoy myself. We ended up in the green knight's section, which according the Medieval Times custom, means we were the scary, swamp-dwelling, beer-swilling barbarians. It was just what I needed! We looked around the gift shops for a few minutes, and then dad called to let me know he was parked right by my car. We headed outside, and I called AAA. They told me the driver couldn't patch the hose that we thought was the problem, so the car had to be towed. Since we were more than 50 miles from home, I had to have the car towed to a local AAA-approved repair shop. I left the key, and my contact info, with the overnight watchman, and we headed home piled in my dad's car. Driving at night in a car with a broken turn signal switch is not fun; about two weeks ago, dad was driving, flicked the switch, and it snapped at the base. Since he hasn't had his car in yet, I got to drive from Orange County back to the northwest San Fernando Valley like that, changing lanes as little as possible, and watching very carefully for law enforcement vehicles. After dropping everyone off, we got home, and I attempted to go to sleep. Unfortunately, with my late start, and the stress, and the frustration over not knowing what was happening with my car, I didn't get to sleep until sometime after 3AM. This was particularly bad, as I had been told to call the repair shop by 7:30AM, in order to set everything up, and make sure they looked at my car. I got up at quarter after 7, and called at 7:30, only to be disconnected during my first call. I called back, and neither of the people I needed to talk to were in. So, they said they'd call me back. They just did, a few minutes ago. They're going to run a pressure check to confirm where the leak is, and then call me back to tell me what needs to be fixed, and how much it will cost. This particularly sucks, since I was hoping to go back to sleep. Oh well. I need a vacation.... Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
