A Tuesday Meme to Lighten Things Up a Bit

L'Empress did a Meme recently which was kind of fun, so I thought I'd do one, too. Here you go... ready or not...

1. What was your first alcoholic drink?
Southern Comfort. I cringe now when I think of it, but on a visit to my 1st husband's college (UConn) for a Winter Weekend, he got me good and drunk on this sweet syrupy stuff. We were going to see Johnny Mathis that night, too, but I was so falling-down drunk by the time we got to the concert, I don't remember him at all!

2. What was your first job?
The most boring job in the world - I was a filing clerk in a bank's bookkeeping department. My entire job consisted of taking big stacks of cancelled checks and filing each one in file boxes. All day long. Boring!

3. What was your first car?
When I'd left my 1st husband, I walked everywhere because he got the car. So I finally bought my first car for $200 - a really old, dented up, red VW Bug - but after walking everywhere for a few months, that old clunker of a car was like a limo to me!

4. What was your first mobile phone?
While working as an office manager, the staff all had these walkie-talkie contraptions to contact each other while the men were out on the job (construction), and you had to bleep on - talk, and bleep off and say "over" to hear them reply. Ancient!

5. What is your first proper memory?
My 2nd 3rd or 4th birthday party at our home in West Medford, Mass. I distinctly remember preparing for the party in our second floor apartment and running down the stairs every few minutes to answer the door and let all the guests come in. I actually remember other stuff from living in that house, like going next door to Glenna Flagg's house to watch "The Howdy Doody Show" every afternoon at 5 p.m. I was only 2 4 when we moved from there to Marblehead, so these memories had to be before I was 2 4.

6. Who was your first teacher?
Mrs. Church. Kindergarten. And I can remember her very well still because she had one finger missing, and that's all I could focus on the whole year - that hand with the missing finger.

7. Which fictional character do you wish was real?
Superman. Specifically, George Reeve.

8. Where did you go on your first ride on an airplane?
To Newark, NJ (the excitement capital of the world) to catch a bus from there to Lafayette College to attend a fun weekend with my boyfriend, Jack D. I got quite air-sick during that flight, too, and had the barf-bag in my hands the whole time - all 45 minutes of air-time!

9. Who was your first best friend?
Carol Lee Brown. No, I take that back, it had to be Glenna Flagg from when I lived in W. Medford. But I was only 2 4 when we moved to Marblehead, and Carol was my best friend from then clear up to high school.

10. What was your first detention for?
I never had detention. I was a goody-two-shoes in school - that could explain a lot now...

11. What is your strongest sense?
Smell. Odors really drive me up the wall and down again. Some are nice, but there are a lot of foul odors in this world, and my smeller works too well most of the time.

12. Who was your first kiss?
Bobby Hodges - 6th Grade. In the Warwick movie theater on a real "date" (I was 12, he was 14) where we sat through the whole movie with his arm around the back of my chair, and finally, near the end, he leaned over and laid one on my mouth and I thought I would suffocate!

13. What was the first film you remember seeing at the cinema?
I have no idea of the early ones, but one I remember vividly was when my family all went to see The Ten Commandments in Swampscott at the Surf Theater. I loved that movie because Moses believed so hard that he could walk on the water, and so I came home and tried to believe real hard that I could have a sister someday, and sure enough, it worked! At 14 I was told that Mother was expecting and several months after that, I had my baby sister Sarah.

14. What's the largest amount of money you've ever won?
$500 on a season lottery ticket given to me by my family one Christmas. I thought I was a gazillionnaire when I won that money. I won $500 again on a free scratch ticket I got at the grocery store once, too.

15. What's the largest amount of money you've spent in one spree?
When I bought my current automobile, I plunked down $17,000, all cash, for it as I'd just inherited the amount I needed after my mother died, and my previous vehicle had broken down completely.

16. If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Beware of Foul Words Emitting From Mouth!

17. Have you ever got sweet revenge on anyone?
Yes. I divorced my 1st husband and married a man who would never hurt me like #1 did.

18. Have you ever been to a live concert?
Yes. Not too many, I have sensitive ears, but the loudest was an Elton John concert at the Univ. of Indiana in the early 1970's.

19. Have you ever been to see stand up comedy?
No. And I have no desire to do so.

20. Have you ever needed stitches?
Amazingly, no. Oh wait - yes! I had a bunionectomy on my left foot and they did use stitches in the incision so YES...

Now you know it all. C'mon, somebody else do one...

Cheers for the mundane meme,

Bex
