First Known When Lost, and a Painting...

Check out this web site called:

FIRST KNOWN WHEN LOST

I am so excited by it that I don't know whether to spit or go blind! There aren't enough minutes or hours in the days to see all that it offers. So just go down the left hand column and check out his links - to other blogs - not to mention his own incredible blog here. I mean, just look at the paintings on his page... amazingly gorgeous, and the poetry -- I can hardly contain myself!

I was looking up a particular painting yesterday that I stumbled upon, one that I wanted to have and to frame and hang up. It's not a common painting and was done in or around 1888 by Alfred William Hunt - called "Wind of the Eastern Sea: View of Whitby Abbey." Here is the painting of which I am speaking:

The wind is so visible - the Abbey so prominent, St. Mary's Church at the top of the 199 steps so miniscule next to the Abbey... and all the superfluous things that normally surround a picture of this place are gone, it's so perfect to me. It's my favorite place on earth. It's where I want my ashes to be buried... on this high cliff in Whitby, N. Yorkshire, England. If only I could be sure Paul would do that for me - if I go first. He says he won't, but it's my only wish for my ashes, so maybe he would, after all.

Anyway, back to the site - I was looking up this painting above (I'm going to print it off on my printer and see if it will frame up nicely) and I stumbled upon the one linked above at the top... FIRST KNOWN WHEN LOST ... and I got lost in there!

See for yourself if you have some free time. I know everyone is busy-busy-busy, but you'll see why I am so excited about it.

Cheers,

Bex

I think I could turn and live awhile with the animals...
They are so placid and self-contained,
I stand and look at them sometimes half the day long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied... not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.
