The frightening consequences of electroshock therapy

I'm a middle aged government attorney living in a rural section of the northeast U.S. I'm unmarried and come from a very large family. When not preoccupied with family and my job, I read enormous amounts, toy with evolutionary theory, and scratch various parts on my body.

This journal is filled with an enormous number of half-truths and outright lies, including this sentence.

Here she comes

There are about 10 of us sitting in my sister's living room watching a TV show. My oldest brother says to his youngest daughter, "So Nikki, tell what is bothering you. Tell us the thing that is preoccupying your mind more than anything."

"Well I have this sister, and she is afraid of butterflies!"

"Why is that the biggest thing that bothers you?" I asked.

"Because she screams. You get a butterfly and bring it over to her and she starts screaming. I mean, how can my big sister be afraid of butterflies? She's supposed to be more grown up more than me."

"No Nikki, it can't be about your sister, "says her father, "It has to be about something else. Something that really, really bothers you."

"I can't help it. She's the one that is scared of butterflies. Well wait there is something else. I have this dad who acts like the biggest weirdo in the world, and it's so embarrassing to be around him. Well, actually he doesn't always act like the biggest weirdo. Sometimes I come over to his house and he is acting like the dumbest person in the world. But today he is acting like the WEIRDist person."

Now, Nikki is eight. She's freckin eight, and this is the way her mind works already. Holy crap, she is going to be something.
