Workshop was not fun tonight. There was very little feedback on my work. An eeery silence from all members. To be expected since I was working in prose form in all ways except for lenght. It was the worst, no one hated the material, no one loved it. Just a few mild comments. Totally worthless. Looks like I'll have to depend on the kindness of magazine editors to tell me if I'm any good.

If you're smart, you're laughing right now.

At the end of class, we discussed Rae Armantrout and the teacher and her cronies extolled the virtues of metonymy over metaphor, but in ways that were not convincing, in ways that reduced metaphor to a near-useless vehicle. Even though in some ways I agree that metaphor is a tired vehicle, it's because the world is so tired of metaphor, not because of political implications.

RRRR, just feeling antsy and restless. I need to be around fiction writers again.

Rick
