So it looks like war between Pakistan and India. A nuclear exchange could kill over ten million peoples in the first strike and potentially tens, if not hundreds, of millions in the following months. Raging cancers, lack of medical facilities, lack of fresh water, and epidemic illness will claim the rest. It is worthy to note that during the cold war, there would have been over a billion people affected by a U.S. - Soviet War - representing the populations of Europe, North America and the U.S.S.R. Yet there are over a billion people in India alone and another hundred million in Pakistan (let's not forget the ninety million in neighboring Sri Lanka, which would suffer greatly from the fallout of nuclear war). A war on the subcontinent would be as devastating as a Western Heimsphere war in 1983.

Imagine the vast tracts of land that would be uninhabitable from such an exchange; imagine the refugees and the drain on the world's medical systems; imagine the sheer numbers of dead and permanently wounded. In the most perverse terms, this conflict could outdo WW II in every aspect of violence.

But as a shallow American thousands of miles away, what can I do but hold my breath?

IT'S A WAR BEYOND BELIEF
