Birthday Fiday Five: as seen at Songbird, RGBP:

1. Favorite birthday cake/ice cream/dessert

As a kid I always had angel food cake--confetti angel food some years, with fluffy white frosting. It is now Wondergirl's favorite kind of birthday cake.

2. Surprise Parties -- have you ever given or received one?

I suprised muy husband this year with a cake and serenade at a church activity that was held the night before his
(Sunday, therefore work day) birthday.

3. Favorite birthday present

In 1999, I was in Nanjing China on my birthday. (Also the 10th anniversary of the protests at Tianenmen Square. CNN was eerily blacked-out that day. But I'll blog that another day.) My husband somehow, with the help of a woman who was traveling with me sent me the most beautiful flowers at the hotel. When I came back from my day's travels, the Concierge met me at the door wishing me happy birthday, which wasn't completely odd since the hotel was holding our passports. When I got to my room, there was a sign, a card, the flowers, hundreds of tiny paper cranes, and confetti decorating the room. It was magical!

4. What do you think of those candles that won't blow out?

Meh. Funny if you're eight years old I guess.

5. Best. birthday. ever.

Haven't had it yet, but 1999 will be the close second. I was apart from my family, so it can't really count as the best, y'know? Birthdays for me are quirky animals. I spend most of the day thinking about this and waiting for a phone call, letter, e-mail that will never come. I'm working on it.

Ten Simple Pleasures

I've been tagged by Mindy!
1. Getting tagged for a meme.
2. Freshly done nails
3. First cuppa joe in the morning, drunk while sitting on the back porch.
4. Typing the four words that are always the last four of my sermon, "Thanks be to God."
5. Watching Gilmore Girls with WG.
6. A good report card from Pretentious High School.
7. Good-fitting black pants. Not too tight, not too loose.
8. Airline boarding cards.
9. A short line at airport security.
10. That morning snuggle with OEH. After 24 years, we fit together perfectly in the morning. Don't even have to think about where the arms and legs go.
