2007-01-13 11:34 PM On the word change... I got to thinking about the word "change" and how it applies to life. It seems that people constantly think about change as a necessary but difficult thing to handle. I've gotten used to it simply because I'm a former military brat (my dad's now retired, but that hasn't changed my ability to quickly adapt and easily sever connections).
Language is something that interests me almost as much as religion (which is second only to music, the environment, and engineering...). I'm no language professor, but I do have some understanding of word roots and such after four years of latin study. One thing I've never seen is a latin word with the root of -ange, or a latin word that has any part remotely similar to this construction. However, words with the -ange root are rather interesting. Change Derange Mange Strange Range Exchange Arrange What I find so interesting about these words is that while they may seem perfectly normal, they all have subtle undertones, slight, negative connotations. A verbal exchange. A strange substance. An arrangement of sorts. A range of possibilities. A mangey dog. A deranged man. An upcoming change. Language is fairly fascinating.
