2007-02-06 12:20 AM Living with the glass I did some major thinking - and talking (both to myself and others) - and came to some realizations concerning how one should view a partially filled glass.
The old saying is that pessimists view the glass as half-empty, optimists view the glass as half full, and engineers view that glass as poorly designed if it can't be defined as one or another. My take on it: I'm happy to have the glass and have something in the glass. Does it matter that the glass is half full or half empty? Does it matter what precise amount is in the glass? I think what is truly important is the fact that I am fortunate to have something to hold liquid which I may then drink. If a situation warrants measuring as either half full or half empty, why not just drink it all, however much there may be, not scrutinizing the precision of the positive or negative, and learning all that may be learned from the situation. No more will I judge the contents of the glass. No more will I judge the appearance of the glass. From now on, I will look at the glass, appreciate its presence, and drink the liquid within, learning everything I can so that I may become a better person.
