2007-02-12 2:52 PM 2046 and Asian Films The wonderful US is so far behind in foreign films. As in a full year behind the UK, which is a full two years or so behind Asia concerning release of Asian films. What's gotten me really angry is the inability to find 2046 in any store, and the stores themselves are aparently "unable to order" the requested film. Even Best Buy said they couldn't order it.
The film looks incredible. Absolutely stellar. Much like other top Asian films, they capture a feeling and emotion which is all but lost in American cinema. Of course, there are great films which come out once in a while, but the emotional atachment, the intensity, the beauty of stylized films such as "House of Flying Daggers" is dead in America. Blood and gore drive US films, not scenes of action which are choreographed to perfection. Also, music selections in Asian films always intrigue me, the mix of European, Eastern, and Technological musical elements creates wonderful atmospheres. The musical mixes always seem appropriate, subtle enough to not overpower the film, yet strong enough to set a powerful tone. Colors and Cinematography are also incredible. Asian films tend to sacrifice realism in order to place emphasis on the emotion of the film and the real heart and driving concept. Sure, snow doesn't fall to a depth of 3" in a minute and a half as it does in certain films, yet at the same time the snow and the sudden fall highlights the desperation and cold felt by the two locked in combat. Just my thoughts on the ailing US film industry. AND, I want 2046 =(. The previews are absolutely stunning. Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
