On Jesus as the savior

A rather detestable, know it all, egomaniacal person I know did a presentation today on Apologetics and decifering the truly best belief. While his presentation failed to do anything but allow many to catch up on sleep, it did provide some interesting points of thought for me.

He told me that the "true" Christians believe only those who believe in Jesus as the path to Heaven will indeed go to said place. Everyone else goes to Hell. No matter what, even if they were a great person, like Ghandi. By his words, and apparently true Christian rule, Ghandi is in Hell.

I have developed a new thought. Perhaps salvation through Jesus means not just believing in the man and his deeds, rather we should view him as a model citizen, a truly pure of heart man who strived to make the world a better place.

Perhaps that is the true meaning of salvation through Jesus.

Perhaps there is room in Heaven for Muslims, Hindis, Jews, and Buddhists, so long as they live a life where they truly work to make the world a better place.

I just can't believe in a "forgiving and gracious God" who finds no room in his realm for those who are pure of heart, yet ignorant of past truths so muddled in political and religious wars and tribulations.

I believe in a just god. I believe in role models. I believe that attempting to be the best person one possibly can, one will not only achieve enlightened virtue, one will find themself with a seat in the house of God.
