Love is not the easy thing
The only baggage that you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind.

Let me share a little of my Valentines weekend:

First off, I went ahead and (didn't) drive to O'Hare after my mid-term to pick up TAFKAC, who wasn't waiting for me at the curb after not-getting on the plane.

Then we didn't go out for a light dinner and quality samplings from one of the city's finest wine collections at my buddy Scott's restaurant/bar, the Tasting Room. Scotty's a real wine connoisseur, and he enthusiastically (didn't) give us an exquisite tour of the best vintages from around the world at considerable discount.

After dinner and drinks at the Tasting Room, we didn't go check out Emily's band over at Bar Vertigo in Ukranian Village, which was another great set.

After Bar Vertigo, we managed to not go to the Green Mill in Uptown for some quality smoky after-hours live jazz.

Saturday morning, after not-waking up and fixing a tasty cheese omelet, we didn't decide to venture over to the Lincoln Park Zoo on what turned out to be a gloriously sunny day in the 40s.

We didn't stroll the grounds, not-checking out the African lion up on her stone perch gazing down in sad wonderment at the lingering white stuff on the ground around her that still makes her paws freeze. Nor did we check out the sea lion presentation with all the youngsters gathered around the pool.

That night, we decided to not-explore the bars down on Division St., after not-enjoying a delicious Italian meal at the place down the street. Fun!

Yesterday, we didn't wake up and help prepare a delicious fritata brunch with my roommate Hugh, an aspiring master chef - a tradition not-carried over from TAFKAC's previous visit.

In the early afternoon, we didn't lie in silence on my bed, melancholy at the impending departure. Then, after that, I didn't bring her to the airport, where TAFKAC didn't get hit with the hour flight delay due to weather.

(Still got more of those Orbitz update calls. Bastards.)

All in all, I'd say it was a (not) wonderful weekend.

Tonight, a group of us are desecrating V-day as much as possible by goin' bowlin'. I look forward to a successful endeavor.
