Spring!

I feel it today. I hear Rat under the house on streetside, and I whirl around the corner to stick my nose to the grate. I want to eat him alive. Not really. It’s just an expression. I really want to give him a chase and watch his little Rat tail swishing behind him. But today, he is not to be seen. Not to be smelled. I do smell something, though. It is—

Yes! It is jasmine. It grows by the gate. The very first day I took possession of my house, I stood at the back gate and stuck my head straight into the jasmine blooming there, and I remember breathing in and breathing out, and I remember standing still for a very long time there in the sun with my head in the flowers. Freedom! Spring! I’ve been sprung from Dog Jail, and I’m free!

I get that same feeling today. What a life! I am pampered and loved, well fed and head-scratched. I go where I want to go in my house, and I own my back yard. On Ride-Sees, I own all the streets outside the auto’s windows and all the People walking canines on those streets. And I own all those canines. I especially own all the Chihuahua, Apple Heads. This jasmine is mine, all of it, and the sun beating down on my withers, and the fresh water just inside the door, and the yellow chaise lounge where I can curl up in or sprawl out on. No dog’s life could be better than mine. Spring!
