I turned 4 on Friday, but I didn’t feel much like celebrating. Labrador, Yellow has been working very hard to stay alive, and the People say it is time for a long rest. I think I understand. Labrador rests now. She just doesn’t rest for long. She paces now like she paced when we were first introduced. She was still in Dog Jail then. I was just a pup. Now I know more. That’s what happens when you have birthdays.

This morning I wasn’t the only one who got to go to Pete’s. Labrador went, too. She doesn’t howl anymore while the People eat. We played in the yard this afternoon in the sun, and Labrador and Poodle both stood and sniffed the breeze. Bigblack was asleep in his chair, but I think he’s what we all smelled.

What dogs will be in my life when I turn 5? I am sure I wonder.
