Tired of Travelling

I am sitting in a hotel room in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is now Thursday night, 9:30 central time. I can’t believe we made it this far today. We have another five hours of driving before we reach Dallas. Here is my view of the trip so far:

Wednesday: I packed the car so full that I am afraid to open the trunk because it will not close again! I had to leave my Whelan dragon home. We left at 1pm. I cried for most of New York. Pennsylvania was uneventful, pretty and long. We ended in Virginia, at a Best Western that was, well, not really “Best.” And for the first time, I saw a Denny’s that was closed. I always thought that was their strongest point of advertisement: “Welcome to Denny’s, we’re open.” (It certainly isn’t the quality of the food…)

Thursday: Out of Virginia and through Tennessee. We drove past Opryland and the Mississippi river. It got dark way to early, and we hit some rain, but that was ok, as it cleaned all the salt off the car. I hit something in the road, a destroyed tire I think, and it scared the heck out of me, and Paul got to drive after that. Arkansas has the worst maintained interstate that we have been on so far. (It took us 3 roads to get from New York to Arkansas, I88, I81, and I40)

Notable car trip comments:
One interstate looks very much like any other in the dark.
Audio books are the greatest invention in the universe. Check out Audible for a really cool site to download audio books.
Will power and boredom can overcome carsickness.
Caffeine is good. Lots of caffeine is better.
Cell phones are only as good as the coverage. (No service since Memphis!)
Texan cows look just like New York cows…
70mph is wonderful.
