The first day

So today was my first day at work. It was orientation, so I didn’t actually do any work. I got to fill out paperwork, meet my fellow new hires, learn the phone and intranet systems, and get a tour of the premises. I must say that the campus is very impressive. There is a lot of neat technological gadgets that make everyone’s lives easier. They have robots that deliver the mail, they even open and ride on the elevators. They have a herd of cattle. (For tax purposes) And they have possible the only trees in all of Dallas. (Slight exaggeration.) They have a white noise maker, to reduce the office noise.
I met my new boss, and co-workers, who all seem very nice, and are mostly women. My cube is HUGE! For those who had seen my previous cube, the new one is about 3 times as large.

Tomorrow I start my training for my actual job. I will have at least 2 weeks of training, with real work being slowly added each day. I have so much to learn. I will be working in what is termed “fashion diamonds” in the jewelry department. I will have a sub-department like rings or necklaces or something that I will be totally responsible for. I will do the sales flyer information, the ordering, the analysis and the allocation.

It took me 15 minutes to get to work and 1 hour to get home, I got lost!

I forgot to mention the McDonalds that I went to yesterday. I know, it doesn’t really seem like that deserves mention, but this one had chandeliers. No joke. The inside was as nice as any restaurant that I have been to lately, mahogany paneling, chandeliers, and marble floors. I want to go back and take pictures because I can see the heads shaking in disbelief.

That is all for today, I am a bit tired. I am not used to getting up at 5am anymore!
