Guilt for nothing

A friend of mine had a baby daughter some months back and I've been meaning to make her a quilt. I finally got started yesterday using fabrics that my grandmother had collected back in the 60s and 70s. I figure that by the time I get this done the baby will be out of college and the quilt will be an instant antique.

Movies: Femme Fatale. As with many movies, I knew I had seen this before, but had no recollection of it. A cheesy and disappointingly convoluted story.

Dreams: Both were in my office, although the physical details of the office were morphed slightly, as will happen in dreams. At first, there was a marching band playing outside my office, complete with glittery confetti floating from the ceiling (perhaps the fact that I had watched Queer as Folk right before sleeping had something to do with the party atmosphere). I gathered up all the people in my area of the office to listen to the band and asked them to move to a slightly more open area so that everyone could watch. They were decked out in blue and white uniforms with tall hats and gold trim. Surprisingly, their music was quiet for a marching band.

When I went back into my office, it had been transformed into a corner office and I was struggling with the blinds on one of the windows (a real life frustration that I face every time I need to raise or lower the blinds in my actual office). I kept pulling on the cord and nothing would happen with the blinds (another tie to reality - one of our cats likes to chew off the cords on the blinds in the house and I had been trying to repair one of those yesterday, to no avail). I was out of storage space in my office and needed to find places to put a lot of files. There were what looked like fake drawer fronts set into the corner of the desk, but when I pulled on one, it opened right up (despite the fact that the interior of the drawer was larger than the opening). It was filled with odds and ends from previous inhabitants of the office, including a wallet. I opened the wallet and found a license or ID card with a picture of a young woman whose middle name was listed as Todd. The dream me reflected upon all the women who have taken to using either their maiden name or a family name as their middle name. Since I never changed my name when I married, and do not like my given middle name, I decided that I would use my grandfather's middle name, Chamberlin, as my new middle name. As I was looking at the wallet and trying to decide what to do with it, the woman in the picture showed up along with her husband. I felt guilty - as if I had taken something from the wallet (I had thought about looking through it before they showed up) - although the couple were very glad that I had found the wallet because she no longer worked at the company and didn't know how she was going to get it back. I never did get back to stowing the overflow of stuff in the newly found drawers.
