Mad mad Friday night world

Work is, well, work - stressful, demanding, a vortex of political maneuvering and machinations, with the occasional brief burst of gratification (usually measured in nano-seconds).

Home is chaotic as many small repairs are done and a few improvements added as well.

Friday night driving adventure:
1. Get home from work. Pick up younger daughter, take her to friend's house, take them to mall. Am regaled on the drive with stories of who's swapping spit at the middle school this week. And how many are sick from all that saliva-sharing (dozens; bacteria love teenagers, their favorite transport mechanism).
2. Drive home. Pick up husband, go out to dinner.
3. Drive home. Get gas on the way. Wonder why I still can't have a Mobil Speedpass embedded in my arm.
4. Drop off husband. Drive to mall to pick up Rebecca and her friend. More stories about who's "hooking up", which makes me shudder.
5. Drive home. Drop off kids, get call from older daughter that she feels poorly and needs to be picked up.
6. Drive to pick up older daughter. Call her when I get to the location. She felt well enough to order a double latte, extra caffeine right before I pulled up. She has won all sorts of prizes from bingo night at the youth group she attends. I tell her she owes me half the prizes as a payment for the transportation. She is neither amused nor forthcoming with the requisite goodies.
7. Drive home, drop off older daughter, pick up younger girls, drive friend home.
8. Am baffled that no one else's parents either have a car, are capable of driving, or are gullible enough to ferry their kids around every weekend.

Movies: Intolerable Cruelty. It was intolerably cruel to try to watch this movie all the way through to the end. There were at least two too-many story parts to this, along with a tedious script and uninspired acting. One of those movies in which the meager funny bits have been condensed into the ads - watch those and avoid this sleepy dog.

Music: Mad World by Gary Jules. Cannot get it out of my head. Not available on iTunes. Evokes the movie Donnie Darko, which could have been written solely from this song, every time I hear it.
