And so it becomes vaporous

Evaporate - verb, to disappear or convert into vapor. Also, what my vacation has done this week. I made the mistake of reading my email today which contained a plea for me to come into the office "for a little while", which ended up being most of the day. More of the same tomorrow starting at 9:00 AM. All for a good cause - a deadline that is not ours in the making and which will influence our future for the next year or so.

When I write these entries each day, I frequently feel as if I should be doing more to chronicle the little events in my life. These are the touchpoints with my past that I wish I had chronicled when the girls were little - when Caitlin had an ear infection, what Rebecca did on a certain day in first grade, where they sold Girl Scout cookies. So here is a sample from today.

1. The painters remain on the premises. They changed the blah blue to a more distinct shade and greyed out the green so it's not so bilious. Caitlin's room is a wild lilac shade that is actually quite stunning.

2. New family room furniture showed up today and we had the old sofa, shedding its stuffing, hauled away along with the sofa and chairs from the living room that the cats had used as a litter box. The new furniture is great, but we always buy one too many pieces for whatever space we're filling. No matter how many pieces we buy, there's always one too many.

3. Rebecca had her 3rd day of "outdoor ed" and came home exhausted, falling asleep before 5:00 PM. If only she had napped like that when she was 18 months old (when I had to lie down with her and stay very very still to keep her asleep for any length of time).

4. I stopped at Good's furniture this afternoon to shop for a new chair for my bedroom. Found a chair, but could not find a fabric I liked.

5. Stopped at the library, dropped off two books, picked up three more. Although we bought a big bag-o-books at the bookstore to take on the trip, library books are irresistable to me.

6. The girls ordered pizza from the Pepper Mill tonight.

7. We got a package today, although I was unable to answer the door. I can't answer the door anymore in the late afternoon or early evening ever since another delivery a few weeks ago. Rebecca answered the door, having mentioned to me previously that the UPS delivery guy was, in 7th grade terms, "hot". I called out and asked if it was the hot UPS guy, thinking she had not gotten to the door yet. She had. And it was open. And he heard. And I was suitably mortified.
