So, the second season of the Showtime series Weeds debuted last week and it’s very sad to have to wait an entire 604,800 seconds until the next precious 30 minutes. This is a staggeringly funny show with wit oozing out both ends. It’s almost as good as Rescue Me and it doesn’t even have Denis Leary! (although Mary-Louise Parker could qualify as the female equivalent) Elvis Costello sang the theme song Little Boxes which I remember from my childhood as a tribute to Levittown, although the song will apparently be performed by a different artist every week. Last year’s version, which I prefer, was sung by the songwriter (Malvina Reynolds) who sounded appropriately bitchy. This week’s best line, which can be appreciated by anyone who has ever tried to get their family members around the dinner table at the same time: “We’re going to be a family. Even if I have to kill every one of you.”
