What I REALLY watch for, was the look on John Baldwin's face and his overwhelming pleasure at the fact that his partner, Rena Inoue landed that throw triple in the short program. Finally saw the performance tonight, and then saw a shot of opening ceremonies where Baldwin was carrying Inoue over his head in a skating lift. (did you see that?)
I remember this guy from the '96 US Nationals (aka the Rudy Galindo Nationals) and I admit to being pleased that Baldwin's found a home in pairs; he never would have made it to the Olympics solo and he knows it. He's now 31 years old. And watching him with her is a total joy. Tonight after the program ended, he was completely aware of her accomplishment and while i hate that "hey, let's hear it for ME" crap, I watched fairly closely and it's clear that he wanted the acknowledgement for what SHE did, for her abilities. And that was a gorgeous throw jump. So thank you John Baldwin. I hope it all goes well for you and I hope you two are as happy as you seem to be.

You made my day. THAT's why people should compete at the Olympics. To feel THAT.
