I've probably mentioned that every so often, our friends Kate and Glenn send over bags of the Sunday New York Times. this is my idea of fun; mind you, I've already seen the crossword by then, as it's carried a week late in the local paper but having piles of Arts & Leisure sections, book reviews, magazines and news to go through just keeps me happy for hours.

They pile up though and I don't always remember that i have a couple bags of the stuff stuck behind this and in back of that. So recently I tried to get through some stacks and in doing so, found a paper from January 2006 that offered an "op-ed" piece labeled "op-art".

It seems that there was a proejct, an artist collective called "Illegal Art" and they put out suggestions boxes both in New York and California soliciting well um, suggestions. There's a book of these which I might decide I need, but I wanted to share the ones the NYT showed; they did a sort of quilt square layout with 35 examples of suggestions which were collected during the later part of 2005. i won't lay them all out nor list them all but wanted to share some of the ones worth noting.

"Read the instructions"

"Don't Lie"

"Commit"

"Cross the Line"

"Contact my attorney"

"Use both hands"

"Get a Map"

"Add more Color"

"Do not drink & dial"

"Be the moon"

"arm all the gingerbread men"

"Wax, don't shave"

"Less internet
More cabernet"

"Ask an old person to tell you a story"

"Think before you ____________"

"Fish closer to the shore"

"Dude, get over it"

"Don't be high maintenance"

"Eliminate lists"

and my absolutely favorite

"NEVER give a gun to a duck"
