Yes, I was in a union. I'm a former AFSCME member and proud of it.

By the way, I support the WGA strike. I know it hardly matters, I don’t have a tv show, any clout nor do I watch tv that much, but I have the massive pleasure of knowing that lots of people read this blog (those numbers are stunning, and I only know who about a dozen of you are) so in case you haven’t heard or know nothing about it, the tv writers are out on strike and there is little sign of progress.

I live with an artist and he knows first hand about people using his creative work without compensation. There’s NO WAY that this is ever acceptable (of course, if the work is donated, that’s different). Stu saw his work on tee-shirts years ago - shirts he had never approved, no one had ever approached him to use the design he had drawn. It was fannish, it wasn't a huge deal, but it's chickenshit and it IS theft. And the theft continues to be something that apparently Hollywood suits think is acceptable. After all, they're only writers.

See

Also http://www.strikeswag.com/
which had some great strike slogans to offer for tee shirts.
My favorite was

"What do we want?"
"Residuals!"
"When do we want them?"
"Later!"

and this one which Stu sent along which is pretty stunning in showing exactly why the suits are slugs
