This year had its moments. Many of them were straight out BAD. I am not exactly hopeful that 2008 will be better because to be honest, why should it? I don't believe in omens, I don't believe in affirmations. Saying it will not make it so. I don't like the direction of the world,(I'm the same age as Benazir Bhutto. You know how weird that feels?) this country, I've been disappointed in reading matter this year, and I'm going downhill physically and that last, at least ain't gonna change. So I think saying "oh next year's gotta be better" is naive and i don't do naive well. I think it's truly terrific if you can feel that way and I hope you do, I mean it. You should be full of hope and confidence and optimism. I'd like that. Maybe it would rub off. I hope you are. i hope it works for you.

Meanwhile, I'm going to cheat here and rather than comoe up with a clever idea, I'm suggesting that those of you who don't normally read Laura Lippman's blog do so this time around. Go up above and click on "Laura's blog" and read her post for 12/31 and the comments on her "one-word resolution challenge" would you? it's thought-provokinhg, revealing and very very cool.

May you know friendship, confidence, prosperity, love, good health and a sense of accomplishment in the coming year.
