Whether you believe it ended the possibility of a massive loss of life in a war with Japan, or you see it as a triumph of technology and science, or see it as the beginning on a few threat to our fragile planet, never forget August 6.

I try to remember and honor it. One year in Berkeley we participated in "The Shadows Project". It involved leaving behind chalk outlines that mimicked the images left by the explosion of the bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was as "stealth" project; we planned for weeks, making stencils and mixing up a very temporary paint and left shadows all over the area, including the front of Berkeley City Hall. We were up at 4 am so we could leave our images before most people awoke. It was one of the most meaningful actions I ever participated in.

Light a candle. think about what they did to Oppenheimer. Remember Richard Feynman and smile. Look at photos of the Hiroshima Memorial/Genbaku Dome. Pray for peace. Smile at a stranger. Give support and praise to governments who believe in diplomacy. Then go about your day. How's that sound?
