Ramen Song, Mori Birds

My classmate in the UM Philosophy grad program, Mark Warren, spent some time teaching in Japan before grad school. While there, he got a really cool short story, the Ramen Song. which he got published (for way more money than I've gotten from a story yet) at seekjapan.jp, an on-line mag oriented toward English-speakers living in Japan. Sex, drugs, thickly realized imagery and flights of prososy, what more can you say? It's my kind of story.

My Clarion West classmate Caroline Yoachim just sold her short story "Tending the Mori Birds" to "Fantasy Magazine." I already referred to this crypically a couple entries ago (and anyone who knows Caroline could probably decode "colossally talented stylist" as being a reference to her), but now that Sean Wallace has mentioned it on his blog, I guess it's OK to talk about it out of code now.

This was one of my favorite stories from the workshop, and I'm delighted to see that Wallace has such excellent taste.
