JaNo Day 2, Automatic

Last night's word count: 680 words
Overall word count: 794 words

No, no excuses today, just working my way up.

Still pretty measly, and way below what quota should be if I'm going to make it, but it does feel much better and more momentum-y than what I wrote the first day, which has been re-christened as the prologue.

On a different note, this months open-slot story at Clarkesworld, Automatic by Erica L. Satifka, is sort of interesting. I was a bit put off at the lack of names, and for my tastes, I'd have liked it better if it was about twice as long so Satifka could have made some of these ideas work for her in fuller and more interesting ways, but what was there was fun and imaginative and smoothly written enough that I'd be interesting in reading Satifka stuff in the future to see what she did with a slightly more generous word limit than Clarkesworld's.

(As a mild point of interest, quick internet research shows that she seems to be a member of PARSEC, the Pittsburgh sf group, which I was technically a member of for about five minutes back in the 2000/2001 school year, although I only ever went to one meeting, and not of the writers' group even.)
