Busy But Happy

Belated happy Cinco de Mayo, and an even more belated happy May Day to all. Whether you're into the proletarian revolution version or the pagan earth festival version of May Day, I hope you had a good time. Red flags and Maypoles for all! Or, come to think of it, since I'm doing both holidays at once here....red flags, Maypoles and tequilla shots for all!

I went to the SFSFS meeting today and workshopped "T-Shirts, Tentacles and the Melting Point of Steel" (the story formerly known as "The Truth About 9/11"). It went over surprisingly well. Oddly enough, the bit that people seemed to like the most was a jokey little recent-events reference that I threw into the re-write at the last minute so that I'd have a better scene transition. That probably tells you something, but I don't know what. Anyway, if it's rejected at the place it's out at right now (should be about 65 days), I've got some good pointers now for which direction to go on Version 3.0.

(Oh, hey, and before I forget to mention it, go take a look at the May issue of The Town Drunk. Best author lineup ever.)

Meanwhile, I'm still very much in the "miles to go before I sleep" phase of the end of the semester, with final papers still being ground out (they're all due on Wednesday) and feverish lesson-planning being started for the Intro to Philosophy class I'm teaching out at Miami-Dade starting on....um....Tuesday. Oy. Oh, and the lease starts for my new apartment two days after that, so I guess I'll be moving around then too.

On the plus side, I got and signed the contract from Afterburn SF for the zombie story this week, which made me very happy. The story should appear in their July 14th issue, at which point my total cumulative lifetime writing income will be $70.

I probably can't quit the day job until I'm to at least $80 or $90, huh?
