Zombies Yet Again

My zombie story from Afterburn SF was re-printed at Tales of the Zombie War. You never know, you go say nice things about it and maybe they'll even keep it in mind for that biannual contest thingie that they do.

Like before, re-reading it in its new home, I was struck by how, sure, I've changed in all sorts of ways as a writer in the last couple years, there are certainly things I'd do differently on all sorts of levels if I was writing it now, but I'm still very fond of this one at its core.

As an extra feature for the re-release, I'll mention that the three named anarchist characters--Andy, Steve Godwin and Shawna Schwartz--all have first names in common with real people I worked with in Direct Action back in the spring and summer of '03, and the two last names are plays on real last names of two of those people. None of the personalities, of course, have anything to do with the real people, but the names are a tribute. (Direct Action was a radical anti-war group in East Lansing that organized all kinds of civil disobedience and whatnot around the time of the invasion of Iraq. Fun fact: according to documents obtained by the ACLU, the FBI was monitoring DA as a potential domestic terrorist threat, despite having never advocated or engaged in anything remotely violent.) You can find an article that I wrote about one of the actions back in that period here, although you have to scroll down to p. 18 to find it.

Got some other good news this weekend, but it's not quite ready for public release yet. Stay tuned....
