2004-08-30 12:17 PM Random Rant # 1 Okay, I rant from time to time - deal with it or look at some other journal entry.
I am getting seriously sick of hearing how fat America is, how an increasingly large percentage of Americans are overweight. Do you really want to know why a greater percentage of Americans are overweight than ever before?! Do you really wanna know?!? It's because a greater percentage of Americans are OLD than ever before. The baby boomers are starting to retire, and more and more people are living to a ripe old age. Facts are facts, kids - you grow older, your energy level starts to drop, and eventually that nice calorie-annihilating metabolism you used to have just doesn't burn quite as hot as it used to. I oughta know - my waistsize hit 30 about the same time as my age did, and they've been keeping pace with each other ever since much to my dismay. And yes, I'm pretty sure it's not just storing up for a really late growth spurt; the only thing growing on me right now is my pot belly. Yes, I know some people who are undeniably fat, and not all of them are old. But the bottom line is that, for all the headlines screaming that Americans are fat, we are the most health-conscious generation in our nation's history. Not because we particularly wanted to be, but because of doctors, diet pill pushers, exercise equipment manufacturers, gyms, tabloid journalists and fear mongers who are trying to shove this "YOU ARE FAT" concept down our throats! Nobody's getting quite as fat as these people, and they're getting fat off the scare they put into our parents and into us. Enjoy the gravy train while it lasts, bastards - because Americans are getting healthier, and smarter, and eventually there won't be enough overweight people to feed your wallets. Then it'll be time for your budgets to go on the diet, and I'm going to enjoy watching you sweat. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
