Early Intervention and Overdue Upgrades

Another couple of months have gone by, maybe it's time for a journal entry, so here goes...

Eva Rose and I have just entered our 2 year old son, Liam, into Early Intervention for his development. He's getting a little special education, some oral motor therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and probably some other therapies besides. What makes this so strange to me is that it's very clear to us and every one of these therapists that Liam is a very bright child. That's half of the problem right there - the other half is that he's a 37-inch tall, 39-pound titan with a long reach and nearly limitless energy. He's bright enough to realize that he's pretty much able to get what he wants without having to learn to play with others or speak, etc., so he sees no reason to learn these things. I mean, would you learn a new way to ask for juice when you know you can go to the fridge, rip the child safety lock off the door and get the juice yourself? Okay, maybe you would, but Liam doesn't see the need to yet.

In other news, I ordered a new PC; it just arrived yesterday. Neat little toy, lots of bells n whistles. More importantly, it should run far better than the old TI99-4A with an attitude problem we've been using for the last few years. Windows ME has NOT been our friend. It'll be nice, being able to plug in an MP3 player or the wife's PDA to the PC without it screaming "I CAN'T TAKE THE PRESSURE!!" and trying to jump off the desktop (Okay, it just gives us the blue screen of death, but that's close enough). We'll back up the last of our files from the old stubborn electric abacus tonight after Liam's therapy session, and put the new machine to work tomorrow. I am pleased, or at least reasonably placated.

Other than that, it's just been commute, work, commute, love, maybe a little sleep, wake up and repeat. It doesn't really make for an exciting journal entry, but it keeps us quite busy, trust me.

See you next entry - ciao for niao!
