2006-05-02 11:48 AM I just got physically sick Mood: Furious Read/Post Comments (5) |
This Friday construction will begin on the new Freedom Tower. This is the new World Trade Center in case you did not know. It amazes me that it is almost 5 years ago that 9/11 happened. This new construction has set me off on reflection on the events that took place in the past 4 and a half years. After narrowly escaping the world trade center myself and loosing a large percentage of my friends, I immediately re-enlisted and was off to war. During which time my brother got married, which I almost missed... 4 days after his wedding i was crossing the Atlantic again. I did 5 trips to the desert, got hurt and had to get out. Through all of that I never returned to Ground Zero. I made an attempt once, got within a few blocks and saw thousands of tourists crowding around "the pit" taking pictures and pointing. This spot of all their excitement is also the final resting place for most of my friends. It kinda made me feel weird and i could not approach any closer to the site. I went home. At the news of the approval to proceed with construction i knew i had to go. A little while ago, i finally got back to ground zero and said goodbye. Through all of this i look around at "Americans" continually blasting members of the Armed Forces for doing the wrong thing. Now as a servicemember, I know that because of me and others like me, you have the right to talk down about us... but something happened recently that made me sick. A Lance Corpral of the US Marine Corps was killed in action in AL Kafji at the age of 20. His body was sent home to wake and his family was met at the church by protesters holding signs that read "Thank God For Dead Soldiers". I am going to say this once.... It doesn't matter what your political views are. If you feel you must disgrace a family of one of this countries finest men, you do not deserve to live in my country and enjoy her freedoms. If I EVER personally witness such a thing I swear to whatever God you hold true, whoever it is will not walk away. EVER.
