This first prompt has two parts:
1) Choose a single paragraph from one of the pieces we have read and discussed this week that stands out to you as memorable or that resonates with you for some reason. Write a paragraph (3-9 sentences)explaining why you have chosen this particular passage. Be sure to include textual references (direct quotes) as examples to support your ideas. In your reflection/analysis, consider and discuss detail, imagery, dialogue, overall tone, or any other aspects of the form that help the passage to be so effective and meaningful.

2) Respond to one of your classmates' reflections in a thoughtful, insightful, and non-judgmental way. What did you find interesting about his/her choice of passage? Did you find the same stylistic aspects interesting as your classmate did? Why or why not?

HOW TO RESPOND: You can post your responses by clicking on "Read/Post Comments" below. Please use your 5- or 6-digit ID, NOT your real name, as your user name for these posts. Also, do not post your email address; just leave that line blank.

A NOTE ABOUT EDITING YOUR RESPONSES: You only have one hour to edit your response on-line after posting it. See recommendation below about working in Word first so that you can be sure you are happy with your response before posting it.

BOTH responses are due by: 11:59 pm on Thursday, Jan. 17.

NO LATE RESPONSES ACCEPTED. If you are having issues with the Web site, type up a response and send it to me via email, or submit a hard copy in class.

Evaluation:
Reflection/Analysis = up to 10 points for a thoughtful, clear, well-written response. Yes, conventions do count; no more than 5 points for a grammatically sloppy response. Responses with no textual support also cannot earn higher than a 5/10.

Response = up to 5 points for a thoughtful, clear, well-written response. Yes, conventions do count; no more than 2 points for a grammatically sloppy response.

I STRONGLY suggest typing your response in Word or another word processing application before copying and pasting into JournalScape. Doing so will allow you to spell-check and also to retain a copy in case of issues with the Web site.
