If you did not do very well on the Cullen background quiz from Monday, February 11, you may want to take advantage of this opportunity.

Point value: up to 10 points of extra credit

Due date: Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4pm.

Your task: To read and respond to what a literary critic has written regarding one of Langston Hughes' or Countee Cullen's poems.

Questions to answer in your analysis:
1) What about this literary critic's analysis is most interesting or most unusual? Do not summarize his/her entire analysis, but do highlight key points.

2) Do you agree or disagree with this critic's analysis of the poem? Why or why not?

3) What additional evidence, beyond that provided by this critic, leads you to your own interpretation of the poem?

4) How does this evidence prove your interpretation valid?

Where to go to find literary criticism essays: Copy and paste the URL's below into your browser; then look for the links that are specific to poems we have read in class (e.g. "On 'Yet Do I Marvel'").
