hodge podge, cuz i can't spell popouri

well, happy mother's day to one and all. hope it is glorious for each and everyone of you. it really can't be worse than how my day is going to be spent, driving in a small pick-up to help other people in my family.

oh well, such is life sometimes.

so i decided on the book lolita. the amazing thing about this book i think is that initially when nabokov starting writing, he wrote in his native language of russian and then his works were translated or other countries. but by the time nabokov wrote lolita, he'd mastered the english language and some people would argue, much better than many native language speakers.

i poured through reviews on amazon.com. lolita sounds like a wonderful, deep, chocked full of symbolism book. i'm excited. and thankfully, i'll have plenty of time to read tomorrow while waiting for duane's proceedure to be done.

i looked over the davinci code...intrigued by it, i will admit. i mean, it combines my two favorite subjects, religion and conspiracies...lol...and the book seems to have birthed a cottage industry. i noticed while in the bookstore, there were about 15 other books written about the book davinci code. that's crazy.

what i didn't know, was that the book's conspiracy is based on the gnostic teachings, specifically the belief that mary magdalene was not a whore, but jesus's right hand woman, who herself, spent many hours a day preaching the word. some even argue that she was even higher up the chain than any of the deciples.

and of course, the argument goes(which i belive is the premise for this book) that king james, in a time when women had no special rights and were often considered property, insisted that mary be made into a prostitute instead of a "deciple of christ"

if any of you remember my apocolyptic flash and dash i did a little while ago, it was actually based on the gnostic teachings, in which they believed God is not a kind and benevolent God, but a cruel one, and that true enlightenment, true peace can only be found inside each individual. this didn't go over too well with any churches at the time, you can imagine.

but i hear the characters in the davinci code are kind of one demensional, and lack knowlege their experience should have given them.

i'll just wait till it comes out in paperback and i can find it on the discount table.

let's see, was there anything else i wanted to ramble about?

ok, i subbed out another piece yesterday, so i have three things out there waiting for a reply. i'm going to go through my stuff, tweak a few here and there, and send them out. NFG looks like an interesting place and so i'm going to join and send them a few things. one good thing, if it doesn't pass the first editor, you'll know in a matter of days.

ok, well, i guess i have a few other things to do before i start my afternoon road trip. wasn't i just bitching here not too long ago about wanting to get in the truck and drive? well, now here's my chance. unfortunately, i don't get to go where i want to go, but i guess i'm getting what i asked for.

have a lovely day, everyone!

i love ya all!
