back from the land of jeanie

and major nelson was no where to be found.

man, i was worn out yesterday. i didn't sleep well because of my old bones a'achin like no body's business. so i woke up at 5 a.m., took care of some morning-before-we-hit-the-road stuff, which consisted of mapquesting every possible place we might go.

thankfully, traffic was light, and z-man was surprisingly wide awake for the early hour (nine-ish). it's really not that far of a drive.

we got to cape canaveral and immediately (still had to stop for directions, the street signs are way off to the side and quite tiny) we went to the one place which i knew had plenty of openings.

70's style buildings, painted those wacky miami colors, pink, aqua and white. we looked at the place, kind of small, the kitchen unbelievably tiny, but with tile floors (that will help with the sand and heat) and a balcony off the living room and bedroom.

i drove down the coast a ways more to see how far melbourne is away from orlando, but it was too far. so we stopped at one of the many beach accesses and checked out cocoa beach.

man, it was quite empty. the air force base is across the street (and so the govenment owns all the beach access which is why there were so many) and in the short amount of time we were there, two HUGE plans flew low overhead. wow! it was a site to see.

we continued along our little journey, back to the cocoa beach part of town. unfortunately, my cell phone will not work down there. the guys at the radioshack said that altell was strictly up north (meaning when i move, new cell, new carrier, more "fees") so i had to use a pay phone to call the other place we were going to look at (across the street from ron jon's and man, when they say they are big, they mean BIG).

it was a dump. and they wanted more than the first place. i guess it was a little closer to the beach, by maybe a block, and it was a smaller complex, six units, but it was horrendous. i've seen better looking places in an arkansas trailer park.

we went back and filled out the application on the first place. fingers crossed i pass the background check (i think my arrests were misdemeanors, not felonies)

as we left, we headed the FOUR blocks to the beach and checked out cape canaveral beach. man, it's huge! z and i are already making plans for nighttime walks to the shore. it should also be a great spot to watch the shuttle take off.

we then clocked the time it would take to the college z (hopefully) will be attending. not too bad. gas will be a problem, but i guess we'll deal with that when we have to.

by the time i got home, i was done! and for some reason, i still can't shake this headache.
