Burgers on the Barbie in blistering heat

So last night i grilled for the first time on a charcoal barbie. of i've cooked on them before, but never had to go through the start to finish (in other words, lighting the damn thing) barbie's are usually "man's work" and believe me, they each have a different way of placing the charcoal for easiest lighting, and endurance of heat.

it only took me 30 mins and a quarter of a jug of lighter fluid to get the damn thing to stay lit. but i did, and some of the best burgers i've ever had. a big pat on the back for me. now maybe one day i'll learn how to change my oil (yeeeeaaaah, right)

my god but it's hot here. z says the heat index is into the hundreds. today traci and i tried going to the pool fairly early, before too much of the heat of the day rolls in. we were shooting for 10:30, but it was closer to 11. good grief, it was still hot as balls out there. i lasted about 30 mins, with about every 3-5 min bouts of seeking relieve from the pool. traci lasted 50 mins.

i'm waiting for sweet relief, but it's not even august yet (typically the hottest month of the summer)

in the meantime, i'm meeeelting, but at least i'll have a nice little tan.
