LB has a new book, it's a larger version of a book that he recently decided he liked again. The smaller book is Five Little Ladybugs and the bigger one is Ten Little Ladybugs.

Tonight we read the big one (he later read the little one with daddy).

It's got circles cut out on each page and little plastic ladybugs that stick through the holes, and when you turn the page, one of the ladybugs goes with it, so the number of ladybugs steadily decreases.

We got to 4, which reads, "Four little ladybugs climbing up a tree..." and LB says, "Those two are climbing down." I look at them closely and they were indeed facing down the tree not up it.

Then there's the page with the frog, in the little book, it's two frogs, and the page with the duck that has two ducks in the little book. He noticed those recently, and now reads the lines as, "and along came TWO ducks" or "TWO frogs." But with the new big book, it's "and along came a really BIG frog," as the frog in that book is much bigger than in the smaller book.

Lastly, on the last page of the book it finishes off a sentence with, "Home!" LB's learning how to spell words, so far he knows how to spell "stop", but we're working on it. So we spelled "home" at the end of the book. He named all the letters, and I said that it spelled "home", then he pointed to the ! and asked, "What letter is that?" So I told him about exclamation points. Later, when he read the little version with daddy, he pointed to the same ! and asked daddy what it was.

I'm amazed at the memory and the detail awareness that so many 2 year olds seem to have.
