Sunday's the day, but the celebrations begin on Friday.

Friday it's the school celebration-and he wants ice cream cones and juice. I think it'll be drumsticks and juice, but that's ice cream cones that might actually work to bring to his school. I also apparently get to read a book to the class with him sitting at my side. I think it's of his choosing too, we'll see what he opts to have me read.

Saturday is the BIG BASH and really it's all caps because of my own lack of foresight. I figured we'd get the usual turnout that you get for a party, but NO, there are only three kids who haven't RSVP'd yet and only one has declined, so there will be LOTS of kids (and lots of adults) at the party. It's been a fair amount of work, but I think it's all under control. We wrapped up the favors last night (which include a DVD of LB's favorite train videos for each family among other things). I am in the process of baking the cookies tonight(train shaped to be decorated at the party by the kids with food coloring in water and paint brushes-it was going to be royal icing, but the Joy of Cooking suggested food coloring in water instead and that sounds just great to me-I've plenty to do without having to try to whip up some royal icing too). I ordered the cake (undecorated) and the main dish platters today for pick up on Friday. My fridge is going to be VERY full Friday night.

My list of stuff to get done is actually shrinking, which is GREAT!!

I did decide to decorate his cake myself, but nothing super complex or anything, some train tracks, the writing, and a small pond/lake.

Sunday is his actual birthday, I figure that day will be mellow-recovery from his party. We may go out for breakfast-if he wants to go, and he's already been told he can choose the restaurant we go to for dinner that night with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Skippy and Uncle Phil. I imagine it'll either be chinese or Japanese, either of which are fine with eveyone else.

I've noticed that this year he's pretty excited about his birthday and is looking forward to it. Some of that probably comes from me, as I'm excited too, I remember how great birthdays and birthday celebrations were when I was a kid and I hope to pass that on to him as well.

I'd better get back to the cookie dough now.

I'm sure after the event there will be pictures and stories galore.
