LB scored the bookend goals for his team this season.

He scored the first goal for the team in the 2nd game of the season (I think it was).

After being rained out for two games this season, the AYSO soccer league was able to allow the U8 teams one more game this season. That was today.

LB put it quite well last night when he told some of my family that, "My team didn't so too well this year." Point of fact, of the 8 games they played, they lost 7 and won 1. When the U8 commissioner made up the opponent line up for today, he tried to pit equally matched teams against each other.

LB's team played the only team that they had already beaten this season(their record was apparently 7 losses and 1 tie-so pretty equivalent to our record). The first half of the game was scoreless, with our coach asking his kid (probably the best on the team) to play in goal first quarter and then on defense the second quarter. Apparently there was some bad blood between them from the last meeting and he didn't want anything to happen. I saw players from the other team arguing with each other, calling each other stupid, and generally being poorly behaved towards each other. Luckily that didn't translate into their being poor sports to our kids. At the start of the second half, coach's son managed to score, then another of our players and then coach's son 2 more times. In a stroke of good luck, the most egregious poor sportsman on the other team was in goal for these four points. And boy did he not like being scored upon, he stomped, kicked the goal (from the inside, might I note), and stood for much of the time with his arms crossed.

At the end of the third quarter (during which LB had been in goal), coach told him that he would not be in goal this last quarter, and LB offered to play defense or mid. The coach's response was asking didn't he want to play forward and try to score a goal. Of course LB wanted that, so off they went into the final quarter of the game.

You, dear reader, know how this ends. LB did score a goal and was thrilled. So he scored the first goal of the season and the last, and nothing in between.

And now he's signed up for next year, and I just hope he gets onto a team that plays like a team and demonstrates good sportsmanship.
