Okay, so here's what I'm wondering: If someone tells you they'll call you on Tuesday with some information (regarding a fairly pressing issue), and you don't hear from them so you call them Tuesday evening and leave a message, does it seem to anyone that it would be okay/polite/socially acceptable for that someone to not call you back simply because, to paraphrase, they "didn't get the information yet"? To me, this seems wrong. Now, of course, the "you" here is me, and I did just experience this. I called the someone again today and left another message. Someone called me back this evening and said they hadn't listened to my message, but they were calling me back to see what I wanted. I asked about the fairly pressing information. "Oh," Someone replied, "Well, I didn't hear back from the person I was asking about, and that's why I didn't call you back on Tuesday." Grrr, grumble. Okay, so this is totally this person's M.O., and it is totally my M.O. to get all irritated and frustrated by this person and this person's behavior, but even aside from that:

Am I out of line in thinking that if you tell someone you'll call them with information on a certain day, you call them on that day WHETHER OR NOT you have the information?

Okay, I have to go now because my nephews (whom I just put in bed) have come back downstairs and need me to put them back to bed.
