Back and almost better (but not better than ever)

Despite still having a sore throat (and thinking this morning that I had pink eye, which I thankfully thankfully thankfully don't) and a slightly stuffy nose, I had a great time at the Father's Day Festival! My only regrets arethat I just had too much going on to get up there early enough on Thursday to see King Wilkie and Uncle Earl perform their Thursday sets. I did get to see them each perform one set on Friday, and they were amazing. And I got a babydoll shirt signed by all the members of King Wilkie... I felt like such a groupie! They're such cuties! They're the total bluegrass boy band, ohmigod. They're such a boy band that the only t-shirts they had for sale were girls' sizes of babydoll shirts. Hilarious. It was fun to flirt with them, though I kept it mild because I'm sure they have girls throwing themselves at them pretty much nonstop, and though I was amused by the fact that by getting the shirt signed I was being a groupie, I was also annoyed by that fact. Such a conundrum. To groupie or not to groupie?

And Uncle Earl was GREAT!!! I bought Jessie an Uncle Earl hat for her birthday, and she got that signed by all but one of the g'Earls.

Besides seeing those two bands (and several other good bands, and a few not so great ones), the main thing that I did at this festival was jam, jam, jam! I stayed up until about 1:00 every night jamming (and sometimes I started as early as 9 or 10), and I was able to keep up with just about everything. I think there were only two or three tunes all weekend that I just couldn't play along with. So that was pretty friggin' fantastic.

I slept late every morning, too, so even though I didn't get enough rest to get better, I at least got enough rest to not get worse. And hopefully I'll get lots of sleep over the next couple of crazy days before I leave the country. Erk! That's happening so soon!!!!

I think the only thing that actually truly sucked at this festival was that one of our neighboring camping families was just really stressed out all the time and the guy of the family was enraged a lot and was mean to his niece who was with them. He was an asshole, actually, and that was a bummer to be around. Patty, who was the coordinator for the children's program (she was also camping near us) was great; she was very calm and went and talked to the guy and he calmed down, and Patty took the girl off to help with the children's program and that kind of defused things... but it was just unpleasant to be around that kind of energy. It was really weird, too, 'cause they (this angry guy and his wife, who had brought their 2 year old little boy and 9 year old niece to the festival) never went to hear any of the music (they said it "wasn't their thing") and the woman said camping wasn't much her thing either. And then it turned out they only lived 15 minutes away, on the other side of Grass Valley. The guy wore a festival volunteer shirt the whole weekend, but we never saw him helping at anything. It was so strange. Why were they there?

Anyway, my throat is really hurting now so it's time for me to go to bed. I get to sleep in tomorrow! And I won't be steaming away in a greenhouse either! (It was really hot up there this weekend.)

G'night all... hope your weekend was as fun as mine without the runny nose and sore throat.
