Toulouse Lautrec Museum, ohmigod!

My mom and I have been to the Toulouse Lautrec Museum in Albi twice now.... just incredible. That guy could friggin' draw!!! Some of his cartoons and lithographs and god, just everything... when he was around sixteen, it was like a switch went on, and all the doodling and painting and drawing he'd been doing before crystallized into this amazing ability to capture facial expressions and postures... really a genius. One of the best things was seeing some of the studies for the famous posters and paintings, and then seeing the final product... being able to see a little bit of the process.

And tomorrow we're taking the train to Gaillac, a local wine-making town, where at their museum of the beaux-arts, there'll be an exposition of early Degas works (and works of other Impressionists, and also works from Flanders, Italy and Spain) from a private collection that has never before been available to the public. It opens tomorrow, and I'm sure it will be extremely crowded, but we're not going to miss this opportunity!!!

We've been doing a lot of strolling around, a lot of sleeping in, breakfast on our terrace this morning, lunch in cafes... yesterday we went to the Goya Museum in Castres with Agnès and Ariana, and then to the local swimming pool... this has definitely been a real VACATION. In a couple days we're headed to Toulouse, and then to Cadaques, a Mediterranean beach town not too far from Barcelona, and then to Barcelona for about a week. My mom flies back to the U.S. on the 13th, and I head back to Albi to celebrate my birthday with my new French friends, and then to escort the American girls to Paris for a couple days before coming back home.

Hooray hooray hooray!

Gros bisoux à tous!
